The official Rausch Creek April 2018 thread

Here we go again. We always look forward every April to the "Hummer convention" as I call It. Good times, good trails, good food (Muddy) and of course, great people.

So, April 14/15 is what we should be calling in reservations for.. right? Is there a Hummer Hotel rate going again?

Me & mrs champ just spent last weekend at the Hampton when we went wheelin at Rausch Creek.
Yes, arrival April 13 and departure April 15. We gave Christine a heads up about the April dates. You all can just call her and the Hummer rates will apply.

Unfortunately I'm going to have to back out on this trip.

I was talking to Amanda on Monday and since they had their new house closing change at the last minute, they can't go this weekend.
We decided that we will do a trip next month maybe to AOAA instead of Rausch Creek.

Ok. We already did our waivers online for Reading Anthracite a couple weeks ago. They say they have a kiosk In the lobby for waivers. We will most likely go when you guys are ready.

Looks like half our plans have changed. We are still staying at the same Hampton, but we are going to AOAA this weekend. If anyone would like to go, just let us know.

We went to AOAA today. $55 for a 3 day pass (not per day). Western reserve main road was dusty. Trails surrounding 119 are tight since trees are about 1/16" away from both mirrors. We will be exploring wider trails tomorrow. Picture of Puddle road.

Re: The official Rausch Creek April 2018 thread

I did the western reserve last year, there were a lot of tight spots.
Was the eastern reserve closed for the Ultra 4 racing? I heard that the eastern side is more open.

Re: The official Rausch Creek April 2018 thread

The Eastern side was closed Friday, Saturday & Sunday for the Ultra 4. On the western side, there are enough roomy trails and mud pits to keep you entertained. But the other trails like PINE trail are not worth doing because they are too tight. The trail markers suck. After Friday I barely even looked at them since maprika showed me the way and was less confusing. They don't groom the trails so expect alot of superficial scratches. A lopper and bow saw would come In handy on a few trails. A chainsaw would make the tight trails more enjoyable.

This pic was not pine trail, but you get the point. Even so, overall we like AOAA much better than the other place. Today we planned on leaving early-ish, but we just kept finding uncharted paths to Investigate.

Looks like there are only 2 shades of mud but there are lots of mud pits.

I did the Pine Trail last year. Never again. It's just too tight for an H3 unless you really don't give a crap about body damage.
There are some nice trails that get you high up on the hilltops for some great views, like Whale Back.

I'm going there in May for the Wheeler's Overland Adventure. 4 days of primitive camping, activities and wheeling.

Re: The official Rausch Creek April 2018 thread

Yup, we saw alot of scenic spots from mountains to valleys. We accidently went about 2 miles along the side of a mountain. Of course there were no trail markers at the opening of that trail. But we did find a nice lunch spot before returning back up the mountain to pick up where we left off. We went 1/3 of the way through Kutch's crack (blue) started out as a RC rough green then all of a sudden turned dark blue once we got to the top.
