JimyRig is finally well under way 2009 H3T Alpha

We bought the H3T on Presidents Day weekend. Found it in Reno, Nevada so we jumped on a plain, met the Reno GMC/ Cadillac dealer at the airport and went to see it in person. Perfect bone stock blank slate. No evidence that it had ever left the highway or garage. Pristine!

Began with some simple bolt ons: LED marker lights, OEM brush guard, Borland exhaust, Superchips tuner, Daystar dash tray, locking fuel door and a Redtop battery. Then turned the torsion bars up to level things and installed some Billstein shocks.

Re: JimyRig is finally well under way 2009 H3T Alpha

Decided to go ahead and install a Rancho lift. Major project but got it done with out to much blood or inappropriate language... well depends on who you ask. I really wanted to keep my stock wheels so I ordered some 1.5" wheel/ hum centric spacers from Motorsports (for the record, these guys are awesome to deal with). Installed Rancho RS9000XL shocks all around and TOYO 315/ 75 16 tires.
Very happy with ride, look and extra clearance.

Next on the list will be some additional UCP and for sure some rock sliders to replace the steps. Undecided on a winch, not sure I want the added weight up front.

Re: JimyRig is finally well under way 2009 H3T Alpha

Rides great. Two days after install I have a strange squeal when turning. Can't figure out what it is, had wife turning the wheel back and forth and still can't isolate. Sounds like its on both sides so I am thinking it has to be the rack. Ordered a rebuilt unit so I will know soon... Should be here by end of week. Otherwise I am very happy with lift and shocks.

If you are going to put a new rack in it you might as well order up the improved rack mount and bushings from O.D.

I have also read that you need to remove something with the Rancho in order to get to one of the bolts. I saw a guy cut a hole in the mount so he could get to the bolt the next time he needed to remove the rack. Just a heads up!

Mu is right about the new crossmemeber / lowver control arm mount getting in the way. You can remove material from the Rancho Part and then weld a piece of tube or pipe in the close the section back up.

    Good lookin' truck.

Re: JimyRig is finally well under way 2009 H3T Alpha

I did order the Outfitter upgrade for the new install. The only real surprise on the lift install was having to drop the fuel tank in order to get the passenger side rear leaf spring front mounting bolt out. Other than that I didn't have any surprises, just a lot of time spent on the creeper. I did this by myself (as with most projects). Another person probably would have made it a lot easier.

Re: JimyRig is finally well under way 2009 H3T Alpha

Thanks and thanks for the tip. I could tell that the Rancho skid plate was going to have to come back off but didn't think about the cross member. I will plan on drilling an access hole and welding in a piece of pipe for future.
Thanks again for the tip, that gives me a chance to persuade the wife into giving up her car for a couple days since I don't think I can pull off the swap in an evening if I am going to be cutting, welding and painting.
