Bump - Mutant I have a question on the 37's and your offroading --

The front diff design is somewhat light to begin with, did you hit enough blues from your past experience to notice any unusual stress on the front diff with the 37's?

did you hit any areas where you used the front lockers?

Between now & the next set of tires, I'm still trying to weigh the risk & benefits of 37's.

Look forward to following your reality series updates

    Thanks

    Re: Mr. Red Roc'T Metamorphosis

We did a lot of rocks @ RC and didn't notice any real issues with the 37s. I'm not heavy on the skinny pedal and that's what I think breaks parts. In my opinion the front locker is a last resort anyway. I maybe used it 3 times. I was aired down to around 16 psi so the NDs conformed around the rocks and stuff instead of being pushed over them.

I'll post more after a trip to Rocks & Valleys. Just haven't had time to get out there.

Just be prudent with the skinny pedal. When the front tires come to a quick halt is when I have seen damage to diffs and half shafts.

    Re: Mr. Red Roc'T Metamorphosis

Update: just towed a buddies broken 70 Cougar Eliminator on a car trailer about 30 miles. I don't recommend doing it with 37s and 4:10 gears. I was pushing the trans pretty hard in 3rd.

Looking forward to 4:56s some day. Streetability isn't bad with the 4:10s with no load and pretty decent @ 80mph. I usually have our Alphas (with 315s and 37s) in 3rd around town anyway. We only use 4th (OD) on the highway.

City only MPG (40 mph or under with lots of lights):11.6 MPG corrected
Highway only MPG (70 mph to 85 mph): 14.25 mpg corrected

    IroK ND 37x12.50R16 UPDATE

    IroK ND 37x12.50R16 UPDATE
    The Facts:
-Treadwear: F&R are between 16/32nds and 17/32nds. The brand new spare is 18.5/32nds according to my gauge.
-Miles: I have an approx total of 7000 miles on them.
    -Type of Miles:
    • -2 trips to Drummond Island and back, 1800 miles
-1 trip to Rausch Creek (Tremont, PA) 1200 miles
-The rest is pretty much 75/25 city to highway
-3 trips of wheeling rocks, mud and pebble roads (DI and RC)

    Subjective:
-Sound: FRICKIN' LOUD HUMMM, akin to a small single engine prop with fat blades (lower pitch, I love it)
    -Handling:
    • -OnRoad: Pretty good, Wet & Dry pavement ( a smidge longer to stop over 315s
-OffRoad: GREAT, they handle everything very well (Rock, Drit, Mud, Gravel, Hard Sand). (no loose sand testing)
-Snow and Ice we will have to find out this winter (probably pretty good in the snow but the ice will suck!!)

-Ride: Pretty "cushy". the extra sidewall soaks up bumps and expansion joints very well. They also do not track on the groved lines of concrete.

    Overall:
-So with simple math it looks like maybe 37,000 to 40,000 miles with regular rotations.
-I am pleased with almost every aspect of the IroK NDs so far (winter testing to come) except for the scary part below. It caught me off guard to say the least.

-NOTES: Bridge Grates that are parallel to the paved surface will throw you around like a Mastiff with a rag doll (ex: Mackinac Bridge center lanes)

    .

UPDATE: In the snow from a dusting to a full 6" they are rock solid. Even down hill with some ice beneth the 1" of snow on the trail the tires didn't break loose with no brakes, in 4LO (4:1 T-case). Ice they suck just like everything else. They do not seem to slide (understeer) like the MTZs use to on faster than normal cornering in 1-5" of snow.

I am at 26k miles plus 12percent tire size consideration. It still has mud from September Offroading on the outside and mud and blood from deer season on the inside. Soooo nice to have it. One of if not the best multipurpose and comfortable trucks I have owned

    Re: Mr. Red Roc'T Metamorphosis

Mr. Red Roc'T got a new (to us) front ARB bumper today.
Other mods since the last installment: ProComp RS9000s up front, New Diff, New Steering rack and O.D. Steering rack mount and bushings, both half shafts, pass side knuckle, pass side spindle, upper and lower ball joints all the way around (uppers required new upper A arms). Winch is being rebuilt and I will be picking up Viking synthetic winch line and a hawse fairlead at the RC swap meet this week!

    Re: Mr. Red Roc'T Metamorphosis

So, Red Roc'T finally hit 60,000.
    IMAG1761.jpg

Some math since the last mileage post shows an average of 600 miles per month or 7200 miles per year. Overall yearly mileage would be just over 8200 per year.

Running well, it only sees about 15 miles per day but the out of town wheeling trips do add up. Since the last mileage post many trips have been taken, Drummond Island, multiple Rausch Creek, multiple Graying winter and summer, Badlands, multiple Rocks & Valleys. looking at a magnaflow cat back around winter time.

I'll post some current pix when I can.
