    Woot Plasti-dip.....A love affair.

Well, I think we are all in the know now, of my on going love affair, with plasti-dip. A big thanks to my CHO pals for setting me up with this blind date. So, first I will hit some pictures up. Some you have seen, some you have not.

So yes, that's right folks, I sprayed my hood. I'm hoping the spray marks will go away after it all drys. Stay tuned for some day shots, and my final word on the product and it's uses.

I think the best way would be to buy one of those fancy paint spray guns and the gallon plasti dip from the website and go to town, but that gets pricy.

Well I did it with my Wagner, but I may just have to grab a real spray gun.

I know people have said that the hood is the hardest part to get right. Did you do it with the hood opened or closed? Also try changing the distance from which you spray. Its a little different than normal spray paint. Looks good in the pic though.

    Re: Plasti-dip.....A love affair.

I think you hit the nail on the head. I emailed the guys at dipyourcar.com and asked them for some advice. The guy who emailed me back said that streaking like that was a result of three problems. Being too close to the surface, putting the coats on too thick, and varying my distance too much.

He said that the best thing to do is to rip it off, clean the surface, and try again. This time keep the coats lighter, move the sprayer further away, and try to keep that distance consistent.

So, my next day off I'll give it another shot. Going to try to take some day shots today to decide just how bad it is. If it's bad I'll rip it off tonight. The great thing about this stuf is it's removeable and forgiving.

    Re: Plasti-dip.....A love affair.

I just saw that you said you did it with your Wagner. I upgraded from a Wagner last year. My oh my! There is a vast difference in paint quality from the top of the line Wagner to the lowest end Graco Airless paint sprayer. I have this one. I know its more money but it really is a night and day difference in paint quality. Latex paint is going to be a lot more forgiving than plasti dip. Not to mention your painting textured walls usually so its waaaaay harder to see imperfections. Not saying you need a new paint spray just that it might make it a lot easier and if your painting the house it would probably be easier to sell to the wife.

yeah from that angle you can see it much better. Give it another go bother. Even the guys on Dipyourcar say sometimes it takes them several tries on a panel.

    Re: Plasti-dip.....A love affair.

I've been eyeballing that sprayer for a while now anyway.....might be time to pull the trigger. Under the guise of using it on the decking, of course.

I'll give it another go. I have a nice airsprayer, but I was afraid the stuff would ruin it. I may give that a go as well. Just make sure I clean it out well. It just doesn't hold much. About 1/2 a quart.

I peeled off the hood and wow! It came off great. Came off in two big hunks! The bus is no worse for wear.

I'm very close to talking the wife into 3 gallons of black....it helps that she despises the yellow.

Are you doing the whole vehicle?

I debated on taping a ruler to the bottom of my cans as I sprayed to keep it at least 6" away from the surface.

Good luck man. I'm right behind you.

Make sure you watch the video of the guy on dipyourcar.com spraying a vehicle, it might help.

Thanks Ben... Bingo! And nope, I don't after I shower... Hate that... Plus that's an anti bidet mentality...

I don't think most people understand the shower drain and the toilet go to the same place..

Looks good for sure, but I preferred the whole hood being black from before.

It gave it a 'ricer' look... but in a good way.

    Re: Plasti-dip.....A love affair.

Now that what I was talking about!!! Might I suggest that you add a strip around the hood grill and back to just before the back of the hood... Personally, I think you nailed it with those stripes. The beauty of it is when you get tired of the look, peel it off and try something new. I used to do this all the time with different color primers, before I decided on a paint scheme. I'd sand them off after a week or two and try something new. It was a lot cheaper then having to repainted the whole car because I did not like the look.

    Thanks guys!

So describe again what you mean. I can't quite picture it.

I do have an idea of what to do with the doors that should be rockin.
