    The Mustang

My wife drives a 2010 Mustang 4.0 V-6 and last week we were going somewhere in the Hummer and I decided to back up onto the hood. She takes a lot of pride in her car, it is torch red and has the vinyl racing stripes down it and a small cowl hood. The factory hood is $1508 and the bumper is $294 so I opted to go aftermarket with a fiberglass hood and an aftermarket factory bumper cover. There is a guy that works at a local hot rod shop called Rogers custom rods, he does all of the body work there and he has dome several museum quality cars. When we get the car resprayed and looking good I will post pictures of her pavement pounder. The new hood has a 3" cowl and we are going with the one stripe down the middle with a pinstripe on each side (painted on because vinyl sucks ass) and it will turn out good. Rims painted black and red to match, so when we are done with the body work I will post some pictures of the Stang.

I am just ready to get it done. I got the machine shop making some Mustang emblems, but they are aluminum and 3-d and they are skeletons of the Mustang emblem with a small trail of flames. We park them and they have the label in the neighborhood as the beauty and the BEAST.

Hood got delayed, it will be Monday, but I did get the vinyls off of the top of the car, trunk and back bumper. Tomorrow will be cleaning left over glue and buffing the rest of the car out to match a new paint job.

Got all of my parts in slowly, but today was the last one after the hood, bumper cover and bottom billet grill insert. Start spraying Friday and might have it done this weekend.

Got the peeling vinyls off of everything but the hood and front bumper just because we got new parts, those vinyls are a real bitch to take off once they have been on for a while.

Slowly, but making good progress. This is one of these things where we have to take our time. I am kinda like an understudy on this project...I did however spray the bottom of the hood and it turned out great.

It still needs a little wet sanding and a good buff, but we have to wait for the paint to cure out for about a week maybe a few days more.

    Re: The Mustang

We got the hood on the car, but it doesnt look right with the bumper still having 2 stripes on it...so no more pictures till the bumper matches the hood, then we have to stripe the whole car. I had to buy a kit to relocate the window squirters too. Nice clean install, the kit was crap and had cheap hose..so all of that got replaced.

    Re: The Mustang

Got the window squirters relocated to the wiper arms, the old hood had the squirters mounted on it the new hood has no spot, so I got creative and took some 1/4" push pull blue airline and re routed all of the lines under the cowl, drilled holes by the base of the wipers and ran the tube up the wiper arm. Will definately post pictures of that tomorrow, clean install and it works like a champ.

    Re: The Mustang

I have been suoer busy this week, but I did take a day off of work to jump back on the Mustang. Will post pictures later today, got the top striped and cleared, got the trunk striped and just got the 2nd coat of clear on it, currently setting for a little bit of time to dry. I tried to get my wife to let me paint the spoiler solid black, but it is her car and she want the stripes on it, so I am fixing to tape it off and might get the back bumper pulled and preped for paint.

Next she'll want an SVT motor stuffed in it with some suspension upgrades to match. Then you can have a drift car for the weekends!

373 Spider locking diff gears, with a 80mm turbo kit and some duels will be next. That 4.0 with a turbo can really crank out some numbers 390-400 hp with 415-430 ft pounds of torque. It has already had some work done to it and it will definately set you back in the seat, the 4.0 has quite a bit of torque.

Now the spoiler and back bumper to match. A good cure time for all of the clear then it will be a show quality wet sand, buff, and wax job will be in order. He really done a good job on the paint, I was impressed with the paint. That will probably be the last pictures until we are all the way finished with it.

We are done with paint. This weekend will be a 2000 grit wetsand of the hood and the roof of the car, we got the trunk and ass end of the car done. I am very happy with the results and so is my wife.

    Re: The Mustang

The hood just had a few dents where the tow loop got it, and it stuck up about 1/4" above the passenger side fender and thats it. The cover had paint knocked off of it where my shackles got it, when the adjuster came and looked at it..not gonna lie the bumper cover looked bad, but if you know anything about plastic body parts it now has almost no damage at all other than paint being gone now that it has set in the sun all of this time. The hood is an easy fix and they are $1500 brand new and the bumper cover from Ford is right at $300...so when you say rumpled up hood...yeah not so much. I have a picture, next time I am at my computer I will upload a picture if it before it was fixed.

Nope...hers is a GT, ours will run for a V-6 and 2010 is the last year that the 4.0 got put in the Mustang. The new 3.7 has more HP, but the torque on the 4.0 can be crazy with a little bit of work. If I can find time, I will get a video of a good launch for a V-6, real eye opener. There is a guy at work with. 2012 GT 5 speed, but he is almost 60 and more uptight than a preachers wife. I got in front of him once and dropped all the way down to 35 and he refused to pass me, I just wanted to see what would happen and he refused.
